Stardust lungfish is a part of the StrophiurId cod family, and is found within the waters of the North Atlantic, South Eastern Baltic Sea and North Sea. It is a small species and typically will not reach more than 39cm in length. This species is the smallest of the Northern European cod species and is both recognized and appreciated for its unique characteristics.

The stardust lungfish has a darkish brown body with a yellowish lateral stripe which is reflective of light. Alongside its body is a collection of green and blue spots, each making this species unique, and providing it with the unique name it has been given. Furthermore, its body shape, with a protruding snout, gives it a rather unique, almost dog-like appearance. This unique shape has attributed to it being easily recognizable within its population, and the specific identification the Strophiurid cod family.

The cranial morphology of the stardust lungfish provides an indication of its diet among other members of the Strophiurid cod family; however, it is known to feed both on benthic fauna as well as small crustaceans. Furthermore, the stardust lungfish inhabits sand-gravel bottoms and limescale-rock reef areas, and is known to spawn in the months of February to October.

The stardust lungfish is known to be an acoustically active fish, and its vocalizations attract females who they then pursue. It is known to move between 1-3 miles away from their original spawning spot soon after hatching, their movements often largely depending on the current seasonal temperatures at the time.

The stardust lungfish poses a number of conservation threats due to multiple factors. These threats include overfishing, unsustainable trawl, destruction of habitat, and numbers of other potential reasons. The destruction of its spawning and larval areas is a primary concern for conservationists, and it is for this reason conservationists are doing their best to aid and extend the lifespan of the species.

Fishing has been an ancient tradition and is still an activity that countless people still enjoy to this day. There are countless types of fish in the world, each with their own unique characteristics and behaviors. Among these, two prominent species are the Dotty Lungfish and the Victoria Lungfish.

The Dotty Lungfish is a species of freshwater fish found in tropical regions of Africa and South America. They are rarely found in-depth beyond 50 meters and are typically found in shallow water. The Dotty Lungfish is easily identifiable by its small eyes and long, thin body. Its scales are large and course and its coloring is usually a mottled yellow or brown. They feed on smaller aquatic life such as frogs, insects, and worms.

The Victoria Lungfish is found in the legendary Lake Victoria located in East Africa. It is an ancient species of lungfish that can grow up to one meter in length. It has an eel-like body with a slender snout and small pectoral fins. Its mouth is small and its jaws are not adapted for aggressive feeding. It feeds on algae, crustaceans and other small aquatic creatures.

When comparing the Dotty Lungfish and the Victoria Lungfish, it is easy to spot the differences. The most obvious being their physical morphology. The Dotty Lungfish has a much longer and thinner body than the Victoria Lungfish which is more stout in size. Additionally, the Dotty Lungfish has larger scales which are much more course and their coloring is usually a mottled yellow or brown. The Victoria Lungfish, on the other hand, has a much slimmer body with much more streamlined scales. Its colors usually include shades of brown, black, and gold.

In terms of habitat, the two species also differ greatly. The Dotty Lungfish can usually be found in shallow waters of tropical regions of Africa and South America. The Victoria Lungfish, being an ancient species, is only found in the huge, deep body of water that is Lake Victoria.

The Dotty Lungfish and Victoria Lungfish also have very different life cycles. The Dotty Lungfish lays and fertilizes its eggs on the lake floor or between rocks and vegetation where the female guards them and does not leave. The Victoria Lungfish, however, lays its eggs in a mud nest built by the male for the female and then leaves after fertilization. The female will then guard the eggs until they hatch.
